Chinese Paper Cutting or Jian Zhi has been practiced in China for almost 1,000 years.  Paper was invented during the Han Dynasty 105 AD.  Paper Cuttings started appearing  420-589 AD and became a more important art form during the Tang Dynasty 618-907 AD.

WYCINANKA WEDDING SCENE fragment by Felicia

I created this paper cut for a lady in Kuala Lumpur, Malasia. She wanted it for her brother's wedding, as he was marrying a Polish girl.  It was part of a paper cut that featured the entire wedding scene.

I decided to decorate wooden crosses with similar designs as pisanki eggs.  I drew on the bare wood with pencil first and then proceeded to burn the lines into the crosses using a woodburning tool.  It has different types of points that become heated to a very high temperature and actually burn the lines in the wood.  I colored one of the cross designs with permanent marker and then varnished the crosses to make them permanent.
