TEA BAG FOLDING ORNAMENT

MANDALA DESIGN

Image
I used a ruler, pencil, and markers on white paper to make this design.  It's very symmetrical and colorful.  I like to incorporate my feelings in my art.

MANDALA BY FELICIA

Image
I took a MANDALA design class at Franklin Street Gallery in Watkins Glen, NY. I used a compass, ruler, and markers to make a design which displayed my inner feelings.

MOTHER'S DAY PLASTER PYSANKY PINS

Image
This is a project that can be done in your classroom.  You will need plastic teaspoons, Plaster of Paris, a plastic mixing container, pin backs or safety pins, acrylic paints, and brushes.  First, mix the plaster by using water first and adding plaster.  Pour plaster mixture level into each teaspoon and place pin back or safety pin in wet plaster.  Let dry.  They will pop right out of the teaspoon. Now you have a smooth egg shape to paint your design.  When finished, coat with clear nail polish. Don't dump the extra plaster down the sink.  Just squeeze the plastic container, and it will crack off.

PYSANKA IN A STAINED GLASS DESIGN

Image
I started with black dye on my egg and waxed lines that I wanted. Washing the egg in Dawn Dishwashing Liquid and water, I removed the black background.  Now I just dyed each color and waxed over it, creating a stained glass appearance to my pysanka.  These are special dyes that you can get from PysankyUSA.

PYSANKY REPRESENTING NEW YORK STATE (Especially Elmira and the Finger Lakes Region)

Image
I was chosen to represent New York State for the Presidential Easter Egg collection at the White House in 2008!!!  I decided to put grapes, wine glasses, fish, water, checkered flags, and Mark Twain on the eggs.  Our region is famous for its wineries, lakes, and car races.  Also, Samuel Clemens, Mark Twain, wrote most of his books in Elmira. He and his whole family are buried in our Woodlawn Cemetery.  This is a fantastic place to visit.

WOODBURNING & MARKERS DESIGN ON WOODEN EGG Using a wooden egg, draw design with pencil on the surface.  Heat the woodburning tool and trace all the lines so that they are burned into the wood.  I used permanent markers to color the egg and then varnished it.

COLORED SEED BEADS GLUED ON HOLLOW EGGS

Image
I prepared two eggs by blowing out the insides and cleaning them with water.  Then I drew lines on the shells where I wanted to glue beads.  Seed beads are very tiny to work with and can be picked up with toothpicks and placed carefully into the tacky glue, setting aside to dry.  I did a little at a time, as this is very tedious work.  The egg on the left had the background filled in with gold glitter.    This is a good way to save eggs that have been cracked.  The seed beads cover up any blemishes.

MORE PISANKI BY FELICIA Reactions:   1 comment: Passionate in the Finger Lakes  said... You continue to be an inspiration to me and I am so proud to be a part of your family. "Creation begins as a figment in my imagination and can develop into everlasting beauty." I just made that up as I was thinking of you.

PISANKA EGG DECORATING BY FELICIA The scratched eggs are called "Skrobanki" and are made by dyeing the eggs first and scratching a design to reveal the white egg shell.  I dye the egg first and then very lightly draw pencil lines where I want to scratch off the dye.  Then I use an sharpened nail or Exacto Knife to scratch the shell very carefully, since the egg is so fragile.  I don't want to put a hole in the shell.  Sometimes when the white lines don't look clear enough on a regular pisanka, I scratch the white lines and then varnish over the egg to seal it. The second group of pisanki are Batik art and represent butterfly designs on the egg shells and done with beeswax and dye.  With this method, I draw on the white or brown egg shell, which has been blown out to make it hollow.  I draw lines lightly with pencil, (don't erase mistakes...just don't wax over them).  I apply the melted beeswax by heating the pisak in a candle flame , scooping up
